Find Your Forte is a program in Surrey that provides free music education to children in the foster care system. We host beginner and intermediate piano lessons every Saturday at Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church.
FIND YOUR FORTE WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE DEDICATED AND TALENTED STAFF WHO BELIEVED IN THE IMPORTANCE OF PROVIDING MUSIC EDUCATION TO ALL CHILDREN.
A: Lessons are provided free of charge! There is no catch.
A: Ages 5 - 18.
A: Having a piano or keyboard at home is crucial to success in music due to the necessity of daily practice and is therefore mandatory. Keyboards can be rented from Long and McQuade for a very nominal price. There are always free pianos available on Craigslist as well!
A: We anticipate most lessons to be in the 30 minute range, depending on the child. As part of the registration process we will assess the child to ensure they receive the right amount of time.
A: The schedule for piano lessons runs during the school year and will follow the calendar of the Surrey District 36 public schools.
A: We ask that all parents remain with their child while at Find Your Forte to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for everyone involved.
A: Of course! Provided there is room for the child, we will happily receive applications at any time of year. Children will be put on the waitlist if there are no available spots at the time.
A: Parents are responsible for providing the required music lesson books for their children.
A: There will be a year-end recital in June (date TBD) and all students are encouraged to participate.
A: Practicing will be determined based on the child. However, daily, consistent practice is the standard as it reinforces concepts learned at the lesson.
